Metaphysical Meaning : Hematite is linked to unlimited potential and will power. It can be used in any situation which requires energy and self confidence. It has been called a “stone for the mind”, helping one to sort out troubling issues on one’s mind. It is also capable of helping the body to remain cool; placed on the forehead it will draw out the heat from a fever. Geology : Hematite is a relatively common iron ore, occurring in thin, relatively brittle, crystals which are black or a dark iron-grey. The individual crystals have a strong, metallic lustre. It may also be less solid, almost earthy, and red in colour. The name comes from the Greek word aima or ema (1530), meaning blood, apparently because of the red colour of powdered haematite and the colour of some larger pieces.
